Since 2012, Fontys School of Sport Studies has been located in a striking, modern educational building in the heart of Genneper Parken, designed to literally anchor sport and movement in the architecture. The building consists of large, open spaces, plenty of glass, and a central sports hall that serves as the heart of the building. Its location on Theo Koomenlaan connects the educational building directly to the surrounding sports facilities, allowing students to easily attend practical classes.
The building features 5 large gymnasiums, an indoor climbing hall, a theory wing, and pleasant lounges for students and staff. In addition, the educational program naturally makes use of all the surrounding high-quality sports facilities.
Historically, Fontys School of Sport Studies originated from the former ALO Tilburg and the Sport Science program from Sittard. With the merger and relocation to Genneper Parken, the program gained a future-proof location where education, research, and elite sport come together. The building symbolizes this development: light, open, and fully focused on learning through movement on the path to lifelong physical activity.
The Park
The Genneper Parken area is a green, historic, and versatile nature and recreation area in the south of Eindhoven. The area covers approximately 250 hectares and is part of the Netherlands’ main ecological structure. Thanks to nature development, the area is rich in flora and fauna, including many breeding birds.
Sports and recreation in Genneper Parken
Genneper Parken is also an important sports hub in Eindhoven. The area is home to various modern facilities, such as the IJssportcentrum Eindhoven with two ice rinks and the Nationaal Zwemcentrum de Tongelreep, where both recreational and elite athletes train. Additionally, you will find the Indoor Sportcentrum Eindhoven for indoor sports, athletics facilities, and multiple sports fields. The area is popular with runners and walkers thanks to the green routes along the Dommel and Tongelreep rivers. There are also opportunities for golf, fitness, and various outdoor sports, making Genneper Parken a versatile place for athletes of all levels.
