The Netherlands and mobility
The Netherlands is easy to travel to thanks to the hub function of Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam. But of course, also thanks to its central location in Europe and the fact that the Netherlands is simply a small country. Everything is close by, and we border Germany and Belgium.
That is why, in addition to Schiphol Amsterdam, there are a number of airports that are actually just as close: Düsseldorf Airport, Brussels Airport, and Cologne Bonn Airport. Traveling from within Europe, you might even consider Eindhoven Airport as a destination.
Traveling from Schiphol to Eindhoven is a breeze. Schiphol’s train station is located beneath the airport, and the connection to Eindhoven is direct. The travel time from Schiphol Airport to Eindhoven Central Station is approximately one and a half hours. It is neither necessary nor possible to make reservations for the trains in the Netherlands. Instead, tickets are available from the yellow & blue NS-ticket vending machines located in Schiphol Plaza (the main entrance and exit), right above Schiphol train station. Eindhoven and mobility
Bus
The entire Netherlands, including Eindhoven, has a network of bus connections. You can easily view the routes and plan your local journey via so-called OV-applications. Two popular public transportation apps are 9292 and NS.
The destination to enter in the travel app is Fontys Theo Koomenlaan. By bus, you can reach the sports campus in Genneper Parken, where the conference is taking place, in about 10 minutes from the center of Eindhoven. The actual venue is another two-minute walk from the bus stop.
Bicycle
Perhaps even more popular, and most of the time faster than traveling by bus, is traveling by bicycle. The Netherlands is, in fact, the only country in the world with more bicycles than inhabitants. With over 24 million bicycles compared to approximately 18 million inhabitants, the Netherlands has an average of 1.3 bicycles per capita. About 84% of the population owns at least one bicycle (and we also regularly lose them if we don’t lock them!) (source: www.cbs.nl).
You can rent a bike at Fietsverhuur Eindhoven. Reservations can be made online, prelimanary to your stay. Renting a shared bike is also possible, via Dott.
Using a bike makes getting around during your stay in Eindhoven much easier, and healthier. By bicycle, you can reach the event location in about 15 minutes.
