About Fontys University of Applied Sciences

Fontys University of Applied Sciences is a large, broad-based public institution with 43,000 students and more than 5,000 staff, with locations in ten cities across North Brabant and Limburg.

Our schools offer 200+ programmes—bachelor’s, master’s and associate degrees—in full-time, part-time and dual (work-study) formats. They also provide training and short courses for professionals (Lifelong Learning) and conduct practice-based research with and for partners.

  • ± 43,000 students
  • 151 bachelor’s programmes (full-time, part-time, dual/work-study)
  • 41 master’s programmes
  • 22 associate degrees
  • A wide range of Lifelong Learning courses
How we connect education and research

We see education and practice-based research as equal partners. In hybrid settings, on campus and increasingly at companies and public organisations, learning and research overlap. Students work on real-world challenges together with lecturers who also do research and with professionals.

More about

About Fontys School of Sport Studies

Fontys School of Sport Studies celebrated its centenary in 2024 and remains a leading and progressive institute. With approximately 1,500 students and 180 staff members, it works every day to realize its mission: A lifetime of movement.

Education
The institute offers two Bachelor’s degree programs (Physical Education Teacher and Sport Science), an Associate Degree in Sports coaching, and two Master’s degree programs (Sports and Movement Education and Healthy Society).

Research
The Move to Be research group stimulates, organizes, and coordinates research within Fontys School of Sport Studies. It focuses on the professionalization of students, lecturers, and professionals through practice-oriented and relevant research.

Years of impact on well-being and society
The research group collaborates with educational institutions, organizations, and companies on smart and sustainable solutions for sports and movement. It’s goal? To enable everyone, in every stage of life and context, to participate in sports and movement in a way that suits them. Because if you have a body, you can move. Think of children who enjoy doing physical education classes or playing outside. Adults who incorporate movement into their busy lives or seniors who enjoy exercising again to remain mobile and independent.

Move to Be stands for lifelong movement and develops tailor-made solutions that align with the target group and their environment. Since 2007, the research group has gained considerable experience collaborating with diverse disciplines and sectors.
